Sales figure of November 2010 increased for MSIL

The country’s largest car-maker, Maruti Suzuki India, today reported sales of 1,12,554 vehicles in November, translating into a 28.18 per cent increase vis-à-vis the year-ago period.

Sales in the same month last year stood at 87,807 units, Maruti Suzuki India limited (MSIL) said in a statement.

“For the second consecutive month, the company crossed one lakh units sales mark in the domestic market in November 2010

The company saw sales of 1,02,503 units for the domestic market in November, a 34.2 per cent increase from 76,359 units in November, 2009, the statement said. 

MSIL’s exports in the last month, however, fell by 12.2 per cent to 10,051 units from 11,448 units in the year-ago period, the company added.

Last month, the sales of the company’s once bread-and-butter model M800 declined by 19.7 per cent to 2,440 units from 3,040 units in November 2009, the statement said. 

The A2 segment (comprising Alto, WagonR, Estilo, Swift, A-Star and Ritz) witnessed 32.2 per cent growth at 74,063 units compared to 56,005 units in the same month a year ago. A

3 segment sales (consisting of SX4 and DZiRE) increased by 27.2 per cent to 11,115 units compared to 8,741 units in the corresponding period a year ago, the company said.

MSI’s total passenger car sales rose to 87,618 in October against 67,786 units in the same month in 2009, it added. 

In the first eight months of this fiscal, the company’s total sales stood at 8,28,440 units compared to 6,46,139 units, up 28.21 per cent.

Maruti Suzuki in a statement said that “For the second consecutive month, the company crossed 100,000 units sales mark in the domestic market in November 2010.”

Domestic sales during the month stood at 102,503 units, a 34.2% increase from 76,359 units in November 2009. Exports, however, fell by 12.2 per cent to 10,051 units from 11,448 units.

Maruti Suzuki has gone all out to introduce environmental friendly technologies: fuel efficient K-series engine, launch of 5 factory fitted CNG models with i-GPI engine technology. In addition, 9 car models of the company comply with End of Life Vehicles (ELV) recycling norms, which means over 85% of the vehicle, is recyclable. The ELV norms are yet to be adapted in India.

The new ‘K’ is here to stay!

The new Maruti Suzuki Zen Estilo comes with a power packed K-series “K10B” engine. This three cylinder 998 cc new addition is one of the most peculiar characteristics of this new tall boy hatchback. The engine brings a higher torque of 90 Nm@ 3500rpm and a power of 68 PS@6200 rpm. This improved new engine technology gives more boost and low noise and vibrations.

Maruti Suzuki sells more cars in Nov 2010

The November automobile sales for Maruti Suzuki has reported healthy growth numbers over the last year.
Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest automaker, reported a 34.2% jump in sales in the domestic market during November compared to the same period last year. The automaker recorded sales of 1,02,503 vehicles. This makes it the second consecutive month for Maruti when it has crossed the 1-lakh-unit sales mark in the domestic market in 2010.

Maruti's peer Hyundai Motor India, however,did not put up such a great show. The company reported a 12% increase in domestic sales at 31,540 units compared to the same period last year. And due to the plant closures, the company's total sales—including exports—dipped 19.4% with 44,542 units sold in November this year compared to 55,241 last year.

There was a 1% rise in Tata Motors' total passenger and commercial vehicle sales in November which stood at 50,419 units up from 50,114 in the same period last November. Sales of the automaker's latest offering—Nano—stood at only 509 units during the month, down by 85% over November last year. Indica sales were also down 37% to 5,716 units.

Mahindra & Mahindra's sales grew by 18% to 26,666 units, with its tractor sales rising to 17,993 units from 12,592 units a year earlier. Similarly, sales of GM India increased 17.67 % to 8,376 units in November as against 7,118 units in the corresponding month in 2009. Volkswagen sold 4,612 units across India and is now looking to increase the supply of its models Polo and Vento.

The auto sector continues to maintain volume swing upwards. The picking up of a few thousands sales units at the border after a boom Diwali season, is indeed a very positive sign because typically consumers enter into the last two-months of the calendar year and auto sales particularly in the second sales market, tend to depend on the year of the model.

Anti-lock braking system (ABS) is a safety system that prevents the wheels on a motor vehicle from locking up (or ceasing to rotate) while braking.

A rotating road wheel allows the driver to maintain steering control under heavy braking by preventing a skid and allowing the wheel to continue interacting tractively with the road surface as directed by driver steering inputs. ABS offers improved vehicle control and decreases stopping distances on dry and especially slippery surfaces for many drivers, but on loose surfaces like gravel and snow-on-pavement it can slightly increase braking distance, while still improving vehicle control.

Since initial widespread use in production cars, anti-lock braking systems have evolved considerably. Recent versions not only prevent wheel lock under braking, but also electronically control the front-to-rear brake bias. This function, depending on its specific capabilities and implementation, is known as electronic brake force distribution (EBD), traction control system, emergency brake assist, or electronic stability control.

ABS Components
There are four main components to an ABS system:

4.Controller

Speed Sensors
The anti-lock braking system needs some way of knowing when a wheel is about to lock up. The speed sensors, which are located at each wheel, or in some cases in the differential, provide this information.
Valves
There is a valve in the brake line of each brake controlled by the ABS. On some systems, the valve has three positions:
•In position one, the valve is open; pressure from the master cylinder is passed right through to the brake.
•In position two, the valve blocks the line, isolating that brake from the master cylinder. This prevents the pressure from rising further should the driver push the brake pedal harder.
•In position three, the valve releases some of the pressure from the brake.

CNG Technology introduced in 5 models of MSIL

On the auspicious occasion of Independence Day this year, the country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki unveiled its flagship CNG engine technology, 'intelligent-Gas Port Injection' or i-GPI on five popular models. The CNG vehicles were unveiled by Mr. Jairam Ramesh, Hon'ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) Environment and Forests and Maruti Suzuki management team. The models include Maruti Suzuki  SX4, Eeco, WagonR, Estilo and Alto and were launched in Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Gujarat. With this initiative, the CNG footprint of the company spread across entry level cars, compact cars, sedans and MPV segments.
On the occasion, Maruti Suzuki India Chairman RC Bhargava said, "'We are happy to bring contemporary CNG technology to the Indian customer. We are confident customers would value our i-GPI technology that is safe, reliable, clean, responsive and environment friendly. Adapting the CNG technology in our vehicles is another step to keep low cost of ownership for our customers."

The i-GPI or Intelligent Gas Port Injection bi-fuel technology offers an intelligent ride. Intelligent as it ensures more power vis-à-vis retro-fitted CNG vehicles and offers a peppier ride experience at par with that of a petrol-fuelled engine, while achieving high fuel efficiency at the same time. The major and much needed change for the new Maruti Suzuki Estilo is the introduction of new engine. The New Suzuki Estilo is powered by 998cc K-series engine from the A-Star. The engine has been changed a bit - now it generates maximum power of 68 Bhp at 6200 rpm with maxiumum torque of 90 Nm at 3500 rpm. This makes the New Estilo Bharat IV emission compliant with higher power to weight ratio and torque to weight ratio.

The new Estilo comes with a new Cable-type transmission technology. The five-speed manual gear with synchromesh is now changed to Cable type as against Rod-type, mechanical transmission earlier. This new transmission reduces the gear shifting effort in the new Estilo, by reducing mechanical losses.
New Estilo has been fitted with an advanced 'detent pin' gear shift and select mechanism. This mechanism eliminates the sliding friction (or line contact) between parts and provides rolling friction (or point contact). This technology, in turn, facilitates smoother transition of gears, and is a first among all Maruti Suzuki products.

Maruti Suzuki Raid-de-Himalaya

Maruti Suzuki Raid-de-Himalaya is India's toughest and most demanding motorsport rally. It is open to both car and bike enthusiasts and for professional as well as amateur motorsport lovers. Not only does Maruti Suzuki produce stylish cars like the Suzuki Estilo or A-Star, but it also gears for the rough-terrains of the world by producing cars with the caliber of Maruti Gypsy and Suzuki Esteem. 

The participants drive through some of the world's highest motorable roads and passes in the Himalayas like Jalori Pass, Rohtang Pass, Kunzum La, Baralacha La, Tanglang La & Khardung La, through the inhospitable terrains in the Lahual and Spiti valleys in the Ladakh region. Most of the drive is through boulders, snow capped peaks, gushing streams and at times, temperature below -20 degree Celsius. On an average, a participant covers a distance of 300 kms every day in this approximately 1800 km and week-long motoring event.

Every year, more and more people are coming for the Maruti Suzuki Raid-de-Himalaya, many of them from abroad. In 2009, as many as 175+ teams participated in car and bike categories. Maruti Suzuki Raid-de-Himalaya is the only Indian motorsport event listed on the off-road rallies calendar of FIM (Federation Internationale Motorcyclisme), Geneva, Switzerland. Only 12 international motoring events world-wide are listed in this calendar.

Adventure Trial: This version is open to those motor-sports enthusiasts who would like to take on the Himalayas but without the tough competition, difficulty and stress involved in the Xtreme. This section would be open only to stock cars and only certain safety related modifications would be allowed in the competing cars. This is where first timers would fit in.

Maruti Suzuki clocks record sales in September 2010

Car market leader Maruti Suzuki India Limited sold a total of 1,08,006 vehicles in September 2010. This includes 12,858 units for export.This is the highest ever total monthly sales by the company. Previous highest was 1,04,971 units in August 2010. The company had sold a total of 83,306 vehicles in September 2009.
September 2010 is also the fourth time that company's monthly sales crossed 1 lakh mark. With these record numbers, the company crossed half a million sales mark in the first six months of a fiscal.

Maruti Suzuki's volume in the domestic market grew by 32.9 per cent. In the A2 segment, sales grew by 31.3 per cent while in A3 segment sales were 43.2 per cent higher, as compared to sales in September 2009. The sales growth in the C segment was 66.6 per cent over September 2009. The sales growth in B segment was 17.7% over September 2009.

This spurt of increase in sales exports can be attributed to the fact that the new breed of revolutionary cars like the Maruti Suzuki Estilo and Suzuki A-Star has added much needed sales driven fuel in its market share.

New Maruti Suzuki Estilo- Engine Specifications

The new Maruti Suzuki Estilo is set to stir up competition in the small car space. In its second avatar, after having been around for three years, the new car looks like its making a strong comeback and powering it this time around is the fantastic KB 10 series engine that does duty under the A-Star's hood as well.

The KB 10B petrol engine is a 998cc, 3 cylinder unit that has a high compression ratio of 10:1 and delivers 68PS @ 6200 rpm and a noteworthy torque of 90Nm@3500 rpm. Its peppy nature is more suitable for a young car like the Estilo, which was earlier powered by the 1.1 litre petrol mill that powers the Wagon R. With the inclusion of the KB 10 engine, the Estilo has gone from being an everyday commuter car to a fun hatch that has a younger appeal.

The lightweight aluminium engine boasts of low NVH levels, enhanced fuel efficiency and linear performance throughout the powerband. Salient features of the KB10 engine include an all plastic engine manifold, a smart distributor-less ignition system with dedicated plug top coils and advanced injectors plus an innovative rocker-less DOHC shaft. The engine has been further optimized by using light weight pistons and nutless conrods. All this has lead to the engine having a dry weight of just 47 kilograms.

Mated to the KB 10 series engine is a revised gearbox which not only enhances the driving appeal of the vehicle but functions a lot better than its predecessor. This change is mainly attributed to the replacement of the mechanism that was earlier driven by rods. In the new gearbox, the mechanism uses cables to provide for a smoother and more precise change.
